Pesticide exposure affects crop pollination by bees.

Article on Nigel Raine a professor from the School of Environmental Sciences  has found the first evidence that low-level neonicotinoid pesticide exposure affects the pollination services provided by bumblebees to an economically important crop.The study by environmental sciences professor Nigel Raine was published today in Nature.

Grad Student Position - Vineland Research and Innovation Centre

Vineland Research and Innovation Centre (Vineland) is recruiting for a M.Sc. or Ph.D. student position that is available immediately for three years at the Vineland Research and Innovation Centre.  The candidate will be involved in a project titled “Development of wireless sensing and decision support systems” and work under the supervision of Dr. Youbin Zheng (/ses/users/yzheng) and Dr. Gideon Avigad on the Vineland campus. Sidewalk Closure Between "Bob's Dogs" and Winegard Walk

Please be advised that the section of asphalt sidewalk south of the Raithby House between "Bob's Dogs" and Winegard Walk will be closed beginning Monday, October 5 for approximately six weeks to accommodate the Raithby Green Bike Shelter construction project. The sidewalk closure will be delineated with fencing and signage. Patrons will be re-routed to Reynolds Walk to bypass the construction site.

In the News Researchers Study Sugar Corn as Alternative Fuel Source

Canadian farmers might one day grow sugar corn for a potentially huge alternative fuels market through a new project involving University of Guelph researchers.

Along with scientists from Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA), and Western University, the Guelph researchers will study sugar corn varieties whose higher sucrose concentrations might make them more suitable for making ethanol.
