Research Associate position with School of Environmental Sciences

In support of research conducted by Drs. Madhur Anand, Professor at the School of Environmental Sciences and Research Chair at University of Guelph, and Dr. Chris Bauch, Professor of Applied Mathematics and University Research Chair at the University of Waterloo and Adjunct professor at the School of Environmental Sciences, University of Guelph, the incumbent would be employed as a Research Associate at the University of Guelph, School of Environmental Sciences.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Assist in the preparation, proof-reading and editing of research proposals; literature reviews, technical reports, papers and proposals;
  • Ability to conduct independent research and apply basic statistical methods and scientific thinking in the areas of global ecological change, biodiversity, forest ecology climate change research, human-environment systems and/or epidemiology
  • Support undergraduate and graduate students' research in the laboratory and assist with occasional field work;
  • Conduct other related administrative duties including lab/equipment management, CV and website updates and clerical work.

Qualifications:

  • MSc in Biology, Environmental Sciences, Applied Mathematics, or similar;
  • Reliable, trustworthy, excellent judgment and discretion;
  • Keen interest in global ecological change, biodiversity, ecological modeling;
  • Proven skills with writing literature reviews, technical reports, journal papers and grant applications;
  • Basic familiarity with statistics and scientific methods;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Ability to work in a team environment.

Hours: This is a part-time, yearly (renewable) position with health benefits beginning as soon as a suitable candidate is found. Hours are flexible, but generally run Monday through Friday, averaging 5 hours per day. Work may be infrequently needed during evenings and/or weekends depending on project and grant submission deadlines.

Wage is $20/hr based on a 25-hour work week.
