Congratulations Richard Heck on being re-elected to 3rd term Board of Directors of the Agricultural Institute of Canada

Dr. Richard Heck has been re-elected to a third term as member of the Board of Directors of the Agricultural Institute of Canada ("Canada's Voice for Agricultural Research & Innovation"). In recent years, the AIC has organized national conferences on the development of an 'Agricultural Research, Innovation and Development Policy for the Future' (2015), the 'Dissemination of Agricultural Research' (2016), and 'Agricultural Innovation in a Changing Environment' (2017).

Just Published 2017 publication “Characterizing Sites, Soils & Substrates in Ontario – Volume 1 Field Description Manual”, authored by R.J. Heck, D.J. Kroestch, H.T. Lee, D.A Leadbeater, E.A. Wilson & B.C. Winstone.

“This publication builds upon the legacy of the ‘field manual for describing soils in Ontario’, in its various editions (OIP 1980, 1982, 1985 & OCSRE 1993), which has provided standard field reference for collecting landscape and soil information, within the province, for more than 25 years.

Congratulations to Dr. Nigel Raine on being Elected to College of Scholars

Three University of Guelph professors were named today to the College of New Scholars, Artists and Scientists.Integrative biology professor Andrew MacDougall, environmental sciences professor Nigel Raine, and Prof. Carla Rice, Family Relations and Applied Nutrition, were selected by the College. They will be inducted at a Nov. 24 ceremony in Winnipeg.

Raine, holder of the Rebanks Family Chair in Pollinator Conservation, studies pollinator behaviour, ecology and conservation research.

Canadian Ecotoxicology Workshop in Guelph

New Faculty position Assistant Professor in Soil Biochemistry

The School of Environmental Sciences (SES) at the University of Guelph seeks to hire an Assistant Professor in Soil Biochemistry working on research related to soil organic matter dynamics and nutrient cycling, particularly the carbon cycle.

Congratulations to Paul Kelley, University of Guelph Apiary Manager: Recipient of EAS Roger A. Morse Award, 2017

Paul Kelly, Apiary Manager at the University of Guelph, is the 2017 recipient of the Roger A Morse Teaching/Extension/Regulatory Award presented by the Eastern Apicultural Society.  The meeting is being held this week at the University of Delaware in Newark,  Delaware.  Paul received the award today (2 August, 2017) and is giving two presentations at the conference:  "Buckfast bee breeding and queen rearing – why we keep bees on islands" and "Tips, tricks and tools for the bee yard".

Since this award was first initiated in 2000, 5 of the 17 recipients have been Canadians:
