Critical Relationalism by Design – Dr. David T Fortin (Presented by Indigenous Initiatives and Co-Sponsored by SES)

Indigenous Initiatives presents: Métis professor and architect Dr. David Fortin will discuss an emerging positionality in design away from human-centred thinking and instead towards the enhancement of all life. Framed as an evolution from earlier emphases in architecture focused on Critical Regionalism, or the emphasis on design informed by geography, Critical Relationalism instead asks what relationality means in design and how this can guide intentions when approaching the design process.

SES seminar - Dr. Rosalind Murray

We welcome Dr. Rosalind Murray as a speaker for our SES Seminar series. Dr. Murray will talk about "Mating system evolution and female ornamentation in the dance flies (Diptera: Empididae)". Dr. Rosalind Murray is an Assistant Professor with the Department of Biology at the University of Toronto Mississauga. 

SES seminar - Dr. Joey Bernhardt

We welcome Dr. Joey Bernhardt as a speaker for our SES Seminar series. Dr. Bernhardt will talk about "Towards a mechanistic science of global change: from cells to ecosystems and human well-being". Dr. Joey Bernhardt is an Assistant Professor with the Department of Integrative Biology at the University of Guelph. 

SES seminar - Dr. Adam Gillespie

  We welcome our own Dr. Adam Gillespie. Dr. Gillespie will talk about "Soil organic matter stability – insights from analytical pyrolysis". Dr. Adam Gillespie is an Associate Professor with the School of Environmental Sciences at the University of Guelph. 

SES seminar - Dr. Nagissa Mahmoudi

The SES Department Seminar Series, is pleased to host Dr. Nagissa Mahmoudi on March 8th, 2024 for a talk entitled "Picky eaters:  exploring the selective diet of marine microorganisms in past and present oceans". 

Special seminar - Dr. Matthew W. Becker (co-hosted with Morwick G360 Groundwater Research Institute)

The Morwich G360 Groundwater Research Institute in collaboration with the School of Environmental Sciences is pleased to host Dr. Matthew (Matt) W. Becker for the 2024 Darcy Lecture on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, 2pm - 3pm, Richards Building Room 3504.  Dr. Becker's will deliver a talk titled "How Groundwater Impacts the People and Ecosystems of the South Pacific Islands".

Research seminar - Dr. Catherine Febria

The SES Department Seminar Series is please to host Dr. Catherine Febria on February 8th, 2024 for a talk entitled "One informs the other: Advancing freshwater stewardship, species at risk conservation and more through ethical and equitable research partnerships in the Great Lakes Basin".   

Amanda White Workshop (SES Artist in Residency Program)

Our SES Artist in Residency program invites you to join a workshop with Amanda White. Join multidisciplinary artist Amanda White for a workshop hosted at the Plant Agriculture Facilities at the University of Guelph. Participants will explore image-making techniques related to plants and food systems. Participants will explore anthotype printing, an image making technique using flower or plant extracts, as well as soil imaging techniques. Participants can bring a small soil sample, further instructions will be provided.
