Details

Life on the edge: the ecology and behaviour of Gray Jays in Algonquin Park  Ryan Norris is an Associate Professor and University Research Chair in the Department of Integrative Biology. His research primarily focuses on the ecology and conservation of migratory animals, including birds and butterflies (www.norrislab.ca). However, for the past 6 years, Ryan has also been involved in a long-term study of Gray Jays, a winter-breeding, food-caching, resident bird of the boreal forest. Over the last two decades, Gray Jays have been rapidly declining at the southern edge of their range in Algonquin Park. Ryan will talk about his research aimed at understanding both the basic behaviour this fascinating species, as well as the causes of their decline.
