PhD position in Environmental Microbiology with the School of Environmental Sciences

Dr. Kari Dunfield is seeking applicants for a PhD position in Environmental Microbiology at the School of Environmental Sciences at the University of Guelph. The project will focus on genetic-based characterization of toluene biodegradation at a local contaminated site. It will be part of a multi-disciplinary, multi-year study being conducted with industry partners on the efficacy of phytoremediation efforts. The project will involve the study of microbial communities in rock, soil, groundwater and plant material, and data will be linked to measures of bioremediation activity, such as contaminant concentrations. Applicants should have strong interest and research experience in microbial biology, as well as a desire to improve understanding of contaminant fate and biological remediation. Funding is available, though applicants are encouraged to apply for external awards. The position will be available beginning either spring or fall 2015.
