Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Dairy Microbiology

Posted on Wednesday, April 15th, 2015

This is an opportunity to join a new dairy microbiology group funded by the Dairy Farmers of Ontario. The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. and experience in the field of dairy science with an understanding of the physical, biochemical and microbiological principles in relation to dairy and/or food systems. You will contribute to the writing of grant proposals through literature review and design of innovative approaches to improving the quality and health applications of dairy products. Potential research areas include dairy fermentations (starter cultures, yeast, molds), flavor and texture development in fermented dairy products; developing health promoting properties and fermentation processes which will improve dairy sustainability by adding value to co‐products. The research program will interface with related disciplines such as microbiology, molecular biology and genetics, as well as animal and nutritional sciences. Some examples of desirable approaches are metabolomics and metagenomics to understand the impact of microbial interactions on product quality and gastrointestinal function. The fellowship will be awarded for one year, with possible renewal conditional on performance and continued funding availability.
