Congratulations to our own Dr. Stephen Marshall for winning the Dartmouth Medal
Our own Dr. Stephen Marshall won the 2024 Dartmouth Medal for most outstanding reference work for his book "Hymenoptera: The Natural History & Diversity of Wasps, Bees & Ants" published by Firefly Books.
The Dartmouth Medal is an annual award by the expert reference and collection development librarians of the Reference and User Services Association (RUSA), a division of the American Library Association (ALA). The Award was established in 1974 and is awarded to outstanding and significant reference work.
From the Winner announcement: "Hymenoptera is the newest in a series of books from preeminent entomologist Stephen A. Marshall. Hymenoptera is an order of insects that includes ants, bees, sawflies, and wasps, comprising over 160,000 known species and one of the largest orders of species on Earth. Hymenoptera joins Marshall’s other celebrated works on insects, representing an enormous contribution to scholarship on the subject. This work is as accessible as it is comprehensive and its written content is as rich as its stunning collection of photographs. This book is perfect for existing students of the subject and its addition to libraries will undoubtedly awaken the budding entomologist within us all."
Congratulations!
