Research

Focus: 

To understand the annual dynamics of soil structure in agroforestry systems, especially those involving inter-cropping.

Objectives:

1) Quantify the annual dynamics of soil structure, using high-resolution X-ray CT imagery, within established agroforestry intercropping systems in Ontario and Quebec.;

2) Within the context of multi-disciplinary research, considering C & N dynamics, microbial activity and root zone mapping, identify sentinel soil morphometric indicators of soil quality for agroforestry inter-cropping systems.;

3)Establish framework for on-going monitoring of impact of climatic fluctuations and changing intercropping management regimes, on the nature and dynamics of soil structure.
