Position Overview
The Ndaakendaaswen Gamig, led by Assistant Professor Dr. Susan Chiblow [1], is seeking a part-time undergraduate student research assistant to support the Learning from the Lands subproject within the Transforming Chemical Risk Management with Indigenous Expertise (NFRF) research program.
This position offers a unique opportunity to engage in land-based, community-engaged research grounded in Indigenous knowledge systems and environmental stewardship. The successful candidate will work closely with the research team and contribute to community-led research with Indigenous communities.
Position Details
- Start Date: June 1, 2026
- End Date: May 30, 2027
- Hours: ~5–6 hours per week (average 5.65 hrs/week)
- Hourly Rate: $22.00/hour (+ 4% vacation pay)
Responsibilities
The student research assistant will support a range of activities, including:
- Assisting with event planning and coordination, including gatherings, workshops, and meetings
- Supporting engagement with Indigenous Elders and community members in a respectful and culturally appropriate manner
- Taking detailed notes during meetings, talking circles, and research activities
- Assisting with qualitative and community-based research activities
- Helping with logistics, communications, and documentation for the project
- Supporting knowledge mobilization activities (e.g., reports, summaries, materials)
Qualifications

Currently enrolled as an undergraduate student at the University of Guelph

Strong organizational and communication skills

Interest in Indigenous knowledge systems, environmental stewardship, or community-based research

Ability to work respectfully and collaboratively in community-engaged settings

Experience with event planning, note-taking, or research support is an asset

Demonstrated commitment to cultural respect, responsibility, and relationality
Working Environment
This position is based within the Ndaakendaaswen Gamig in the School of Environmental Sciences. Work may include a combination of on-campus, remote, and occasional community-based activities.
