Summer 2020 Research Assistant Positions in Dr. Rebecca Hallett's Applied Entomology Lab
Do you love insects? Are you interested in gaining research experience? If so, we might have the summer job for you! We are hiring four or five undergraduate students to assist us with lab and field projects on the cyclamen mite (Phytonemus pallidus), swede midge (Contarinia nasturtii), and Synopeas myles (a swede midge parasitoid) this summary (May - August).
Specific job duties may include all or some of the following:
- maintaining insect or mite colonies
- planting and maintaining greenhouse-grown plants for research
- driving to and from study sites in the field
- conducting insect surveys and sampling plants in the field
- assisting with lab experiments
- collecting experimental data
- entering data
- cleaning and organizing lab materials (e.g. washing glassware, washing plant pots)
Job Requirements:
- a full Ontario G driver's license
- willingness to handle live insects
- availability and willingness to work some evenings and/or weekends
- availability and willingness to work in the field in high heat and humidity, sometimes for long hours
