Title: Water Footprint of Dairy Operating Facilities in Two Contrasting Climate Areas

Abstract

The aim of the study is to estimate the water footprint components of dairy farms in areas with contrasting climatic conditions such as Canada and Kuwait, and to identify the best mitigation practices to ensure the sustainability of the dairy production systems. The water footprint data will be collected for a duration of one year from dairy farms in Canada and Kuwait and will include information about the water incorporate in the process of milk production in addition to the water needed for animal feed production.

This research will be an opportunity to take advantages of the Canadian experience due to the similarities in environmental challenges between Canada and Kuwait by mean of extreme weather conditions. Also, this research will be the first that evaluate the water footprint of milk production in two areas with different climatic conditions in order to enhance the level of the dairy sector by identifying the best mitigation practices and providing the required information for the stakeholders to make the right decision to achieve the sustainability and the food security.
