An assistantship (3 years) is available for a PhD program at the University of Guelph through Research Affiliate Program of AAFC. The assistantship is available right way with actual degree starting from September 2016. This is a great opportunity to work on a multi institutional project with leaders in the field (Dr. Elizabeth Pattey, AAFC, Ottawa; Prof. Ian Strachan, McGill University; and Prof. Asim Biswas, University of Guelph).

The student will measure, quantify and model greenhouse gas (GHG) emission from agroecosystems modified by the nutrient use as part of a larger Canada wide project. The student will use various traditional and modern techniques to measure GHG emissions from the use of nutrients/nutrient inhibitors and quantify and model them using advanced mathematical analysis techniques like wavelet. A knowledge on instrumentation, trouble shooting and strong interest in mathematics and spatio-temporal statistics will be an asset. The project will involve field works (a driving license is required) in Ottawa area and the student is expected to spend some time in Ottawa during the summer season.

The student will be based at the School of Environmental Sciences at the Ontario Agriculture College at University of Guelph, the center of East Canadian Agricultural research. Funding is available through the AAFC Research Affiliate Program; as such, priority will be given to Canadian citizens, but non-Canadian residents are also eligible. Please check the university website for application deadlines.
