The Hugh C. Morris Experiential Learning Fellowship in the Earth, Energy and Environmental Sciences will be awarded to a graduate student enrolled in a Canadian University who demonstrates or exhibits each of the following qualities or capabilities:
- Excellence in applied research in the earth, energy or environmental sciences
- Leadership in complex project management
- Clarity and ease of communication in both written and oral contexts, and
- Intensity of desire to create social or community benefit through research innovation
The award will be granted to the candidate who demonstrates excellence in the above areas and who submits the most compelling plan of learning (hereinafter referred to as the Experiential Learning Programme or ELP). The applicant must demonstrate that the ELP will be transformative for the awardee, and that it has the potential to lead to novel research, disruptive scientific advances, or industrial innovations resulting in long term societal benefit.
Recipients of the Hugh C. Morris Experiential Learning Fellowship in the Earth, Energy and Environmental Sciences serve as ambassadors of the Kimberley Foundation and the legacy of Dr. Hugh C. Morris, and are therefore expected and required to carry themselves throughout the fellowship period exhibiting social, moral and ethical qualities of the highest order.
