SES 2015 Undergraduate Summer Research Opportunities.

Submitted by jscarrow on January 12th, 2015 10:55 AM

Undergraduate Student Research Awards (USRA) are meant to stimulate your interest in research in the natural sciences and engineering. They are also meant to encourage you to undertake graduate studies and pursue a research career in these fields. If you would like to gain research work experience that complements your studies in an academic setting then these type of awards may be of interest to you.

Through the support of NSERC, the University of Guelph, SES is offering two different programs that support undergraduate research experiences in summer 2015: University Summer Research Awards (USRA), University Research Assistantships (URA).   Please see the list below for the eligibility requirements and application procedures for each.

School of Environmental Sciences USRA 2015 Projects

  • Effects of natural and anthropogenic disturbance regimes on forest-based aquatic ecosystem services [2]
  • Fate of invasive and herbicide resistant weed seeds after anaerobic digestion; Prevalence and taxonomy of anaerobic protozoa in a commercial anaerobic digester [3]
  • Genetic Improvement of Native Pentose-Fermenting Yeasts [4]
  • Honey bee immune responses to parasites, pathogens and agricultural chemicals [5]

The University of Guelph’s SES distinguishes itself from other environmental science programs in that it comprises a true integration of the life and physical sciences to address important environmental problems in forest, aquatic and agro-ecosystems.
In addition to our unique research capabilities, the SES is committed to providing a learner-centered environmental science education to undergraduate and graduate students – one that is second to none in North America.
